How To Pose in Photos
No matter if you’re a professional model or not, it can be hard to come up with different poses on your own.
We are creatures of habit and tend to keep doing the same poses over and over again.
There are so many ways to pose that it’s impossible think of them all on your own. That’s why it’s good to look to other’s photos for inspiration.
Remember it’s not about copying the exact pose as many of use will not be able to pose exactly like the person in the photo.
Either we don’t have long enough legs, long torso, not flexible enough, the list goes on and on.
It’s about making the pose your own but getting inspiration from their photo. And who knows sometimes you can make the pose look better or you come up with a better pose that suits you.
If you keep trying their pose and it’s not working for you, then switch it up and try something else. There are many times a pose just doesn’t suit us.
Start with spending a day on instagram, looking at magazines, Pinterest, online photos of poses, then saving your favorite photos to an album on your phone.
Don’t group all photos together, instead make different categories as there are so many ways to pose.
When you make categories, it makes it a lot easier to go to your albums to find a pose that matches your background, outfit, or mood.
Here are some pose categories:
- Laying Down
Lets say you find some stairs you want to take photos of. All you need to do is go to your “Stairs” folder to find examples of what you want to try.
Or maybe you’re all the beach and you need inspiration for poses, just pull up your “Beach” folder for ideas.
Once you make your albums, add to them when you come across photos you love, growing your poses for when you need them.
Below are my photo albums of poses I've collected over the years that I refer to when traveling or for photoshoots for my Naughty Girl clothing line.
